  1. Add the ground beef, onion, and sausage to a large pot over medium-high heat, and cook until completely browned.
  2. Drain any excess fat. 
  3. Return the pot to the stove, and mix in the garlic.
  4. Saute for 30 seconds. 
  5. Pour in the pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, chicken broth, sugar, balsamic vinegar, basil, oregano, bay leaf, and salt and pepper to taste. 
  6. Cover and bring to a boil. 
  7. Break the lasagna noodles into pieces, and place them in the pot. 
  8. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the noodles have softened. 
  9. Top with parmesan cheese, mozzarella, or ricotta, and serve.
